Kill la Kill meets Zootopia. Trigger nailed it again. The storytelling, the animation, the plot, the characters, the dialogues, the World. This anime breaths and yields: T-R-I-G-G-E-R, frame after frame, word after word. Trigger will shake you many times with smart and astonishing visuals. This must be your anime this season. Trust me, I've followed almost every production of Trigger, and I can tell that BNA will be very special. Keep reading.

Brand New Animal ("BNA") is about a conflicted society where both human and beastmen struggle to live in harmony. In fact, beastmen are being constantly discriminated and harassed by humans. However, ten years ago, a sanctuary city was built to shelter beastmen. This city was called "Anima City," and humans were not allowed to enter. The anime starts with Michiru, a racoon-girl who is being chased by human gangs through her way to Anima City. Yet, when she finally makes it to the city, she will find that this may not be the heaven that she was wishing for.

The main conflict is the struggle between human and beastmen. It's short and clear. Yet, Trigger takes due care to develop it in an amazing and enjoyably way. Think about this anime like something close to Furry Cop. There may be some political plot, but the core will be old school police action with furries... like Zootopia. Also, for what I could see, these plots may not be linear, which is great for character development. I honestly hope to see that with all these lovely designed characters.

The plot of this anime was driven in an amazing way. The pacing of the episode felt great. The way how they introduce the conflict was impeccable. It was fast and not wordy. Further, it was a non-stop flow. From scene after scene, the storytelling didn't stop. The flow was made in such a way that you can almost listen the beat in each scene and dialogue. Rhythm is the core of storytelling. BNA is great.

If you add some music to the whole unedited episode, you will have the ultimate AMV, like those glorious ones from the first season of Naruto, many years ago. There is so much language that is being used frame by frame. The design and movement always feel very dynamic. When Trigger animates a scene, it seems that there are at least three layers, and each of these three layers has something going on. Plus, the soundtrack and the main songs of the anime are incredible. I have been listening to the opening and the ending several times. Amazing.

These are words that come from the mouth of a fanboy of Trigger: you will enjoy this anime. This animation studio is also well known for their style. If you liked the art of Little Witch Academy and Kill la Kill, you will enjoy this anime so much. The freedom and challenge of drawing beastmen may bring the best of Trigger. Only in the first episode, you will able to see some fantastic character designs. The expressions are also the best, in only one episode, I could see at least ten faces of Michiru that made me laugh.

The colors are so vibrant. There is this fantastic use of magenta and purple to recreate the cyberpunk background. Enjoyable aesthetics, there is no other way to explain it.

BNA is a crafted product. You will watch the best result of this fantastic combination of storytelling and animation. You can quickly notice this close nexus. I will highlight this in the future because I don't want to spoil you in the first episode, but it was terrific. I will say that the time when Michiru enters Anima City for the first time was beautiful.

In conclusion, Trigger has given us a fantastic drink to taste this season. I'll strongly recommend this anime for those who liked Kill la Kill and Little Witch Academy. Also, if you want some light action and fast-phased plots, you should watch this anime. In the alternative, if you are into character design and drawing, this anime may be an excellent opportunity for you because the artwork is going to be amazing. Now, if you are a furry who draws fan fictions of zootopia, this is the moment that you have been waiting for. This anime is a MUST for you. Maybe this anime will be the beginning of a new season of furry-anime oriented, who knows.
